How to Set Up a DIY Ice Cream Bar

How to Set Up a DIY Ice Cream Bar- San Bernardo Ice Cream

Fall is here and full of all kinds of entertaining– whether you’re hosting friends for dinner, planning an outing to the local pumpkin patch or hosting Friendsgiving, our social calendars seem to be jam packed in the autumnal months, don’t they?

I love the idea of throwing together a DIY Ice Cream Bar. It’s super easy to do and people love it! (Ice cream is, in my opinion, totally seasonless.)

How to Set Up a DIY Ice Cream Bar

Pick up a variety of ice cream flavors as a solid base. The most important part of the ice cream bar is the ice cream. I like to choose a premium ice cream such as San Bernardo, it makes all the difference! I also like to vary the flavors I offer. Lately, I am a huge fan of San Bernardo Ice Cream, a fairly new brand I was just introduced to recently that is locally based in Florida!  San Bernardo launched in 2015 and has launched exciting new flavors every year since. (And the flavors are incredible!) It is a healthier indulgence; it’s 20% lower sugar and lower fat than most super-premium products on shelves right now. It’s a good price point but is still a premium ice cream. It’s rBST Free and all the ice creams are made with only All-Natural ingredients.

My favorite flavors right now: Biscotti with Sea Salt Caramel Swirl, Amaretto Praline, Loco for Coco, and Quadruple Chocolate. (Because, of course.) Plus, all San Bernardo ice cream contain no artificial flavors or artificial colors and no high fructose corn syrup.

The Italian Biscotti is probably my favorite flavor– it truly doesn’t need any add-ins!

Right now, you can go online and purchase your own personal favorites and gain some yummy freebies while you’re at it! Use my special discount code, “EverybodySpoons8” to get 6 FREE giant brownies and cookies (3 of each) with any pint purchase! (For a Limited Time Only)

The San Bernardo Ice Cream flavors are all re-imagined takes on classic flavors– for example, Tahitian Vanilla instead of boring old vanilla, Quadruple Chocolate instead of just chocolate, etc.

I like to choose flavors that correlate well together; it makes picking toppings a lot easier, because technically they would all kind of work together. (Plus, a lot of guests like to do one scoop of one flavor and a second scoop of a different flavor! This way, it all goes together!)

Keep the ice cream chilled. I like to either set out a big galvanized tub full of ice or set out a glass cake stand with ice. (This is a little messier but looks cuter!) The tub is actually a better idea because you can keep the ice cream colder longer, but it’s up to you.

Choose your toppings. Since I like to choose ice cream flavors that are sort of similar, the toppings I choose sort of flow with all the San Bernardo ice cream flavors. I am a chocoholic, so I opt for the traditional chocolate mix ins. My favorite mix-ins:

  • Kit-Kats
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (crumbled)
  • Oreos (crumbled)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Pecans
  • M&Ms
  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • Mini chocolate chip cookies
  • Chocolate covered peanuts
  • Peanuts
  • Marshmallows
  • Pirouettes
  • Hot fudge
  • Whipped Cream

Serve your toppings in small bowls and have fun with it! The more the better!

Cones or bowls? I like to serve both. Some people like to serve their ice cream in a bowl and eat the cone separately. Whatever works! Also, cones are just fun!

The best part about a DIY Ice Cream bar is that it’s interactive and it’s always a huge hit at any soiree! (Plus, it’s super easy to set up!) Your guests will totally love this yummy treat. Especially while using this new, creamy, natural, and delicious San Bernardo ice cream – the guests and their taste buds will thank you!
