Now that I’ve been carrying the Clare V foldover clutch for awhile, I wanted to make sure to share an honest review with you about what I think, pros/cons, and if it’s worth the money. I had been eyeing the clutch for a long, long time before I finally took the plunge. A total blogger staple, no doubt you’ve spotted it splashed all over Instagram. In my opinion, it’s the perfect going out bag, available in tons of different colors/prints. The foldover clutch is a classic Clare V shape, reinterpreted every season in different colors and prints, while always offering a few permanent color and prints. For the sake of this review, I’m reviewing the leopard calf-hair foldover clutch, but this review can certainly serve for the other colorways/prints as well!
Construction/Material
The bag is genuine leather and calf-hair, fully lined. When you fold it over for use, it’s kind of slouchy and effortless, a look that’s actually really cool and current. It zips closed and has the classic Clare V gold medallion, which just makes it look even nicer. A word about the leopard– the site warns about this, as have a few of my friends who have ordered the bag in the past. As it is made of calf-hair, no two bags look exactly the same. Not only that, the color isn’t uniform across the whole bag. That’s just a natural coloration thing that has to do with the way the pattern is printed on the calf-hair. I don’t personally have a problem with it, I think my bag is super cool, I love the color. But I do have a friend who returned a few of them and just gave up because the color thing bothered her. Personal preference, I suppose.
Capacity/Fit
I love that it’s just a big pouch, basically, but you fold it over in the middle. Translation? It holds a LOT of stuff inside. It’s 11.5″x 11.5″ when laid flat. For me, this is a great bag to tote around because I can throw in tons of stuff. My phone, my wallet, makeup, keys, you name it. It can even hold a pair of foldable flats inside! (You know, for if you’re out dancing or something lol.)
General Thoughts on the Clare V Foldover Clutch
I love this bag. It has quickly become my go-to bag. I think it looks amazing with basically anything from jeans to dresses. For me, leopard is a neutral. It’s a great pop of print that works with pretty much anything in your wardrobe. Polka dots? Sure. Plaid? Perfect. Stripes? YAS. Floral? I love. Basically, anything you’ve got, this bag will work. At $275, it’s definitely splurge-worthy without being a full on designer buy that’ll set you back a thousand dollars.
