Valentine’s Day is officially a month away! It’s funny, but the past few years, I had forgotten how much I LOVE Valentine’s Day. When I lived in New York, Valentine’s Day was always smack in the middle of New York Fashion Week, which sort of put a damper on things. Other than that, I think sometimes when you’re in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is kind of ruined. Weird? I’m just someone who really hates when someone does something for me out of obligation. I much prefer someone to do things for me because they WANT to, not necessarily because they feel they NEED to. I feel very uncomfortable about someone begrudgingly going through the motions of doing something because they think it’s what they SHOULD do. (Unless the person you’re in a relationship with is TOTALLY into it and loves the day! Or is highly creative.)
This year, I’m not seeing anyone special, so I’m reminded of the very reason I loved it to all along; it’s just FUN!
My mom has always loved to make holidays special for us. Easter, Christmas, Valentine’s Day. Even when I was in college or living on my own in New York, she’d send me a little surprise package with a cute pair of earrings, or a necklace, some candy, a card. I always loved getting them. (I think one of my love languages is definitely gifts!)
This year, I’m excited to have a little Galentine’s Day with a few girlfriends, and other than that, I haven’t really made plans! I know one of my single friends has gotten herself a shoot with someone like this New Orleans boudoir photographer as a way to give herself a little boost of confidence and remind herself that, even though she’s single, she’s still gorgeous!
So. Just because I’M single lady status, doesn’t mean YOU are. Which also means that you’re expecting your SO to get you a prezzie, right?? Great news- I’ve put together a little gift guide that you can “accidentally” leave open on the computer for him to see. But regardless of whether you’ve decided to get him a custom photo wallet with a photo of yourself and your partner or a brand new watch, it really is the thought that counts when it comes to days like these.
For all the ladies who like to indulge in some gaming in their free time – you might want to drop in an ‘’accidental hint” to your man about a customized gaming mouse pad. I mean, it does not take much to Make Your Own Mouse Pad, but it could serve as a good Valentines’ Day gift, so why not? You could also return him the favor by getting him one customized too!
Some couples make a joke about Valentine’s Day and decide to give each other a funny exchange of gifts. One of my friends bought her boyfriend a pair of socks with her face plastered all over them, imagine your face on socks, HILARIOUS! Needless to say, he throws them on whenever the occasion arises! Or, I mean, you can email it to him, that works too. LOL! (If that doesn’t work, email me, give me his email and I’ll make it happen for you haha!) It’s like the equivalent of having your bestie take your guy shopping for you. I volunteer as tribute. Just tell me what you want, we’ll get it done. 😉
