Me and Jose Solis, VP of Design for David’s Bridal
My Outfit: Jacket: J. Crew Factory| Tank: Brandy Melville | Skirt: c/o Kohl’s| Necklace: Target
A few weeks ago, I dropped by David’s Bridal in Coral Gables to meet VP of Design, Jose Solis. Now, I’m definitely not getting married anytime soon, (that I know of!) but I’m always looking out for the latest trends to keep my styling clients in the know. Jose and I walked through the spring/summer beauties available at DB, and chatted trends, inspirations and more. So what did I learn?
Long sleeves, illusion paneling, and backless silhouettes are all the rage.
I think the return of the long sleeve has been headed our way since Kate Middleton donned the style at her wedding. The long sleeve is becoming more and more mainstream, and today’s bride is looking for ways to stand out and be different. To balance out the coverage of a long sleeve, many styles are also featuring illusion paneling and backless silhouettes to keep it more youthful and a little bit sexy, while also staying sweet and appropriate.
Bridal 2015 is taking a cue from sportswear… long live separates!
I can’t even tell you how happy the emergence of the crop top set on the bridal scene has made me! I love that David’s is embracing the trend, and the retailer is projecting that this is just the beginning. I love that it’s fun and unique… if I were getting married right now? You KNOW I’d be in a crop top set.
A rack of wedding dresses… how amazing are the mixed textures?
Veils are back.
The veil disappeared from the bridal scene for a bit, but is now making a comeback. Also in style? Tiaras, headpieces, and beautiful jeweled headbands. I think jeweled headbands paved the way for tiaras… for a long, long time, the tiara was considered passe, but now? Brides are embracing it.
The ballgown is making a comeback.
While the mermaid silhouette (which is wildly flattering on everyone!) reigns supreme, don’t count the ballgown out yet. What girl doesn’t want to look a like a princess on her wedding day? This is the perfect opportunity for that Cinderella moment, and brides are embracing the silhouette once again.
Pinterest has played a huge role in what brides are looking for.
Something I observed in my chat with Jose Solis was that today’s bride KNOWS what she wants. She knows the trends, what’s out on the market, and what everyone else is doing. I think this is all about Pinterest. Now more than ever, we have access to everyone’s wedding albums, and websites like Style Me Pretty have opened up a window into what real women all over the country are doing with their weddings. Because of this, bridal retailers are hopping on trends faster than ever and making them readily available to women all over the world.
This Vera Wang ballgown is so stunning and a special order. The fabric was sourced from a Parisian flea market. The underside is entirely gold because of the brocade.
High end designer collaborations are becoming more and more important.
I am so impressed with the caliber of designer collaborations that David’s Bridal has executed. I love that a woman can go into a DB in her town, and buy Vera Wang, Zac Posen, or Melissa Sweet, for under $2000. The dresses are superbly crafted and I was impressed at how the DNA of the mainline is so thoroughly ingrained in the David’s Bridal collections. There are many other collections that have similar quality like blush bridal collections, but I found this to be outstanding!
Love the 3-d heart flower detailing on this ballgown. (It has a matching veil too!)
The quality and workmanship that goes into a David’s Bridal gown are amazing, especially considering price point.
One of the most impressive things about David’s Bridal is the quality and craftsmanship that goes into each and every dress. While Jose and I chatted, he told me all about how one of the dresses in particular was made of lace that took 120 hours to make. There were dresses embroidered with 50,000 pearls, fabrics sourced from Parisian flea markets, and gowns that were painstakingly beaded for hours. All at under $2000. Amazing.
David’s bridal is awesome, i have my eye on some dresses. Thanks for sharing

Abril, I was really impressed with the quality and craftsmanship that goes into them. David’s Bridal has come a long way in the past few years. especially in some of the amazing designer collabs… the Zac Posen and Vera Wang in particular are to-die for! When are you getting married?!? xx S
