When building your wardrobe, it’s key to be able to identify the areas where you should splurge versus areas where you should save. Upgrading your closet takes time and smart decision making. Investing in timeless key pieces is the most effective way to begin transitioning your closet and upgrading your look. In Splurge vs. Steal, I offer up great splurges and steals to help you make the best decision possible on how to get the most for your money and take your closet to the next level. BTW- looking for a great splurge or steal alternative to something? Let me know and it can be a future story idea!
A great strappy sandal is a definite closet staple that every girl should have. Finding the perfect pair can be tough- you want something that’s comfortable yet stylish and that has longevity and can stand a few wears. The trick with strappy sandals is strap placement- you want to make sure that the straps aren’t too tight and that the ankle strap hits about an inch above your ankle bone. Make sure that the pitch isn’t too steep and that your toes aren’t squeezed.
As the strappy sandal is a classic staple, I definitely recommend splurging on a great, luxe pair. Truth be told, you’ll have it forever and it’ll always be in style. If you’re starting to up your shoe game, this is a great first investment. I recommend the Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandal– a favorite of Hollywood ‘IT’ girls, fashionistas and bloggers. It’s been around forever and is a great investment piece. Plus, priced between $398-480, it’s an affordable investment. The ‘Nudist’ comes in a variety of colors and textures and three widths- narrow, medium and wide. (Perfect for those gals with a tricky shoe size!) As a first pair, the nude option is the best… nude elongates your legs and looks amazing with everything.
If you don’t want to splurge, the Steve Madden ‘Stecy’ is a really awesome alternative. It looks a lot like the ‘Nudist’, at a fraction of the price. ($80!) The ‘Stecy’s heel is a tad bit lower and the front strap a little bit thicker. Other than that, it’s a pretty solid dupe.

I say splurge for a perfect pair of your favorite style and then steal a dozen of so in similar styles!
That’s a great piece of advice. The most effective way to build your wardrobe is to begin by investing in staples and basics… because you’ll ALWAYS have them in your closet. The trendy add ons are a great place to save!
