Splurge vs. Steal: The Silk Blouse

When building your wardrobe, it’s key to be able to identify the areas where you should splurge versus areas where you should save. Upgrading your closet takes time and smart decision making. Investing in timeless key pieces is the most effective way to begin transitioning your closet and upgrading your look. In Splurge vs. Steal, I offer up great splurges and steals to help you make the best decision possible on how to get the most for your money and take your closet to the next level. BTW- looking for a great splurge or steal alternative to something? Let me know and it can be a future story idea!

The silk blouse is a timeless wardrobe staple that I think every woman should have in her closet. A versatile piece, it can be dressed up for the office with a pencil skirt and some pumps, or dressed down with a pair of jeans. Something about it just makes you look polished, no matter what. I’ve long been a fan of French brand, Equipment, for their rainbow selection of colors, adorable prints, and, of course, their place in fashion history. (Fashion icons Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall were both fans of the line!) The price point may be a bit on the higher side, (around $250-$300 a pop!) but they are classic styles and a worthy investment piece. For those of us on a budget, the Portofino blouse from Express is a fabulous option, and a dead ringer for many of the Equipment styles. (Plus, at a wallet-friendly price of $59.50, you can scoop up multiples, guilt-free.)

Check out both splurge and steal versions of the silk blouse below, and tell me in the comments: do you think the silk blouse is a splurgeworthy piece, or are you going to  go for the steal instead?

Definitely a steal. I have five portofino blouses from Express. What is great about express is that they are always bringing out new prints and they always have sales!! I just bought my first equipment blouse (used from a consignment store, still was pricey, $75) and you cannot tell the difference! I love silk and such a huge fan of nanette lepore silk tops, bcbg, and theory. I usually get them at Nordstrom rack or consignment shops.

Sam, I totally agree! The Portofino blouses come in some GREAT prints! I like that they keep it around as a staple and you can always buy them. Plus, Express constantly runs great sales and you can scoop them up at an even better price! x S
