Trends are a funny thing. They come and go and, sometimes, a trend you adamantly oppose will suddenly start to appeal to you. At least, that’s true for me. Sometimes, you just need a little inspiration for how to wear something. Case in point, overalls.
I have long been opposed to overalls. (Visions of TLC and and Kriss Kross dance in my heads…) But, after spotting trendsetters like Vanessa Hudgens and Alessandra Ambrosio rocking the trend, I can’t help but be intrigued. Last week, I included overalls in my list of 5 spring denim trends I’m trying. This week, I did a little research and rounded up the best overalls under $100.
Here are a my fit tips for finding the perfect pair:
1. Be cognizant of the bib width. The new styles have a narrower bib- but make sure that the bib isn’t too narrow, which will make you look a little wider. Use your hip bones as a guide- if the bib hits more than an inch away from your hipbone- it’s too narrow. If you have a larger chest, opt for a style with a wider bib.
2. Be mindful of the fit at the crotch. The new fit is a skinny boyfriend. Make sure that the crotch/thigh area isn’t too tight- it’ll create an unflattering pouching effect.
3. Also check that the leg isn’t too baggy and tapers in at the ankle. The best is a tapered crop.
4. If you’re opting for a cutoff style, make sure the short isn’t too long. The new fit is super short, but slightly baggy. A too-long short will look frumpy. (Again, double check the fit. Don’t go too tight!)

Thanks for sharing! The tips about finding the perfect fit are awesome!

Thanks so much, Jennifer! Overalls are tricky… especially the boyfriend fit, I’ve tried on a few pairs that were AWFUL. (The thigh/crotch fit is the key!!) Glad I could help! If you snag some cute ones, let me know 😉
