Get ’em While You Can: The 5 Summer Trends I’ll Miss The Most

With the official end of summer a little over a month away, there are a few trends I’ll be sad to see go. I’m not really one for fashion rules, but a new season inevitably brings about the end to some of our favorite trends as well. Something feels, I don’t know, OFF about wearing a palm tree print in the middle of New York in October, no? To that end, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite summer trends that I think we should all take advantage of rocking… at least until the temps drop. (Who are we kidding, in Miami we could probably drag the trends out year round, but I’ll give them up in solidarity with my fashionable friends in the North!) Shop the looks below and tell me in the comments: what trend are you sad to see go come fall?

5 summer trends

Bikini | White Lace Dress | Hat | Sandals | Crop Top Set

1. “GlamCore” Sandals: I just made this hybrid term up, btw. Whereas I stay as far as possible from “normcore”, if you bedazzle it… I’m pretty much on board. From jewel encrusted Tevas to metallic Birks, glitzy normcore is all the rage. I’m intrigued by the idea of taking something so pedestrian and turning it into something high fashion. I know that the trend is a bit off putting to some fashionistas, and truth be told- I balked at first. But, I’m one who embraces the unexpected and loves to take a fashion risk. It’s all in the styling! To pull off the look, keep the rest of your outfit girly. (Think lacy sundresses and chiffons!)

2. Straw Panama Hats: the ultimate in summer headwear, the Panama is this year’s Fedora. With a wider, flatter brim, the Panama hat superglam and remniscent of the 1930s. I love the look of the Panama hat; it instantly ups the glam factor on any outfit. Available in a variety of colors and textures, I prefer a white straw with a black ribbon.

3. White Lace Dress: the LWD is definitely here to stay as a summer staple. The past few years, summer months have found fashionistas swapping the LBD for the LWD.  And really, why not? a little white dress is just as versatile and easy as a little black dress… plus, feels more effortless and seasonally appropriate. This summer I’ve gravitated towards lacy and girly silhouettes and favored a midi length.

4. Retro Swimsuits: Hollywood It Girls like Taylor Swift have swapped their teeny bikinis for more conservative and chic retro styles. Whether it’s a high waist bottom and bustier or a peplum onepiece, the structured styles of decades past is really uber flattering on everyone.

5. Graphic Summer Prints (palm trees, flamingos, pineapples) The rise in popularity of quirky stars like Mindy Kaling and Zooey Deschanel on their respective TV shows has really led to a boom in cute and quirky fashion from sites like Modcloth. It’s really refreshing in this day and age to see personality and fun being embraced in fashion. But, most of the summer prints should be just that- summer prints. Come September it will seem a bit odd to still wear some of the more seasonal styles.

I just can’t let the white lace go. I’m normally terrified of white (because I tend to be impulsive and get messy really easily), but this summer, I have absolutely fallen in love with embroidered white cotton. I’m determined to transition these pieces into the cold weather seasons!

I think if you layer it with white tights and a long cardigan, blazer, moto jacket or jean jacket, you can make it fall-appropriate. But it also really depends on the dress. Some little white dresses just DON’T feel right in the fall… usually, it’s white sheath dresses and CROCHET that can’t transition. A lace dress is probably fine, a crochet… not really. There are definite exceptions! xx S
