I just love Back to School. I never in a million years thought that I’d ever wish I was going back to school, but this year, I admit I’m a bit nostalgic. Maybe it’s watching Megan go off to FSU, (so jealous…) but I can’t help but think about all the things I wish I’d known in college.
Mainly, I wish I knew everything I know now about the fashion industry, what it takes to make it, and how to get ahead. Some of the things I wish I’d known? That I should’ve started way sooner on internships; they’re truly the key to the industry. That working really, really hard and becoming indispensable to your boss will open doors for you. That a good attitude is memorable. Not to be afraid to assert yourself and stand up for what you want; that promotion, an opportunity, a raise. That being kind is an asset, and people who aren’t are just insecure and miserable, it has nothing to do with you.
Today, I’m teaming up with Kohl’s to bring you an easy and chic back-to-school look. Sometimes, I just get this IDEA of an outfit in my head and I NEED to just… create it. I pictured this exact look when Kohl’s approached me to collaborate on a back to school outfit.
As THE denim trend of Fall 2015, I had been looking to find the perfect pair of flares, and I was so excited when I spotted these Underground Soul flares in-store! They’re a great, uniform wash and they’re just really polished and classic. (And… they’re on sale for $32.99. A STEAL.) Since I’m 5’2, a flare is a tricky business. While these are a bit on the long side, I didn’t want to tailor them, because I love the look of a long, streamlined leg, so… wedges only. (Who’s wearing flats with a flare anyway? EW.) Besides, the long, floor grazing flare is the trend. You REALLY don’t want a short flare, it’s just a bad look and is so, so dated.
I wanted to pair the flares with this crisp and modern sleeveless blazer that I spotted online and was DYING for. It’s just SUCH a good vest, and a perfect fall layering piece. It works especially well here in Miami where it is 900 degrees all year long. (I think it’d be amazing with a leather skinny or over a cute floaty dress and tights!) It’s on sale for $32.99!!
I finished the look with a simple cami, this adorable tassel x necklace (that’s only $15!), and this tablet case I’m using as a clutch (it totes has my iPad in it, though! Also.. it’s on sale for $9.90!)
Guys, this is probably my favorite outfit on the blog! All the pieces are super cute together, but all work amazingly with other things. Definitely all must-have pieces! Tell me in the comments: what do you think? What’s your idea of a perfect back to school outfit?
