A Weekend at Emeline – Charleston Hotel Review

emeline hotel review

While travel plans have mainly been on hold the last few months, taking a couple of safe and socially distanced little getaways here and there recently has really done wonders for my mental health. A little weekend at Emeline in Charleston a few weeks ago REALLY helped me recharge!

A note… I get it– not everyone feels ready to travel yet. Everyone has to do what they feel is best and if you’re not comfortable– that’s totally ok. As for me, I’ve been slowly easing back into “normal” life and resuming some of the activities I love, while of course socially distancing, washing my hands, and wearing my mask. I’ve also done a lot of research before planning any sort of travel and have made efforts to find places that are taking precautions and enforcing safety measures to serve their customers.

If that’s you too… yay! As you plan your upcoming travel, I really wanted to share a recent travel experience that I felt was really amazing… a new hotel that has recently opened in Charleston, Emeline. (If you’re not ready to travel yet, fear not. Pin this baby and save for later… you’ll definitely want to visit Emeline!)

The hotel is in a great downtown location, conveniently close to King Street and the waterfront. There’s valet parking if you bring a car!

The Hotel + Lobby + Amenities

The boho-chic lobby is both welcoming and glamorous… managing to be simultaneously luxurious and cozy, full of personality and quirky touches. Basically– I wanted to move in and am trying to figure out how to decorate my house as an exact replica of the hotel! I’m pretty much in love with the emerald green velvet couch and mid-century modern gold chandelier. Books, art, gorgeous wallpaper… every corner is perfectly IG-worthy.

The staff is SO lovely. Every one we encountered was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The valet gave us tips on the best bars to hit on King Street and the concierge was insanely helpful, filling us in all of the amenities the hotel has to offer, as well as all the safety protocols being taken during COVID times.

Everything was super clean, the staff wore masks, and there was hand sanitizer available everywhere. Tissue stations were also provided so you don’t have to touch buttons, door knobs, handles, etc.

A few amenities I wanted to call out– you can sign up for free bikes to cruise around Charleston! They’re so precious and such a fun way to get around. In need of a car? No worries, there are on-site Mini Coopers you can rent!

The water filling stations on every floor were so convenient and offered both sparkling and still water, as well as individually packaged bags of ice.

NEED coffee in the morning? ME TOO. Just call down to the front desk and they’ll send up free coffee from Clerks Coffee in the most adorable coffee caddy.

All About the Rooms

I am now officially obsessed with emerald green… the velvet couches in the lobby, the insane tufted headboards in the bedroom… NEED IT ALL! Can I just say that the room had DOUBLE KING BEDS?! I am officially spoiled. Why don’t all hotel rooms have DOUBLE KING BEDS? The rooms are great if you’re traveling with a family. There’s plenty of space and separate living and sleeping areas in the suites, which I love. (We stayed in the Socialite Suite!)

Two TVs, one in the bedroom and one in the living area. I also loved the touch of having a record player in the room! We had a really great variety of records in our room, Miles Davis, Fleetwood Mac and more. If there was something you wanted, you could call down to the front desk and request more tunes to be brought up!

The bathrooms are all white marble with black and gold details; super luxurious and the perfect bathroom to get ready in. The showers are HUGE, probably the biggest shower I’ve ever been in to be honest! I also loved that the bathroom had a full-length mirror in it, something that most hotels don’t usually have which drives me crazy!

Frannie & The Fox

We had the most DELICIOUS dinner and drinks downstairs at the uber cool Frannie & The Fox. I was so excited for our dinner rezzie– I had seen the restaurant/bar on Instagram and it was just so cool and beautiful, I could not WAIT to visit.

We ordered pizza, meatballs and a delicious chocolate pistachio cake with olive oil ice cream that was to-die for! Plus– obviously prosecco. We enjoyed dinner and drinks outside under the bistro lights in the cutest courtyard in Charleston. Outdoor fireplaces, cozy couches and intimate seating make this a GREAT date spot or place to grab drinks with a gal pal. Also, you HAVE to order a drink from the adorable wine window! SO FUN.

Clerks Coffee

I am 100% a coffee girl, you guys know it! I live for a good cup of coffee. So often “free hotel coffee” is offered up and is NOT good. NOT THE CASE at Emeline. The downstairs coffee shop Clerks Coffee was so good we visited twice! Right when we checked in, we grabbed oatmilk iced lattes that were so delicious. They also have various pastries and breakfast items like avocado toast and egg and cheese sandwiches!

As I mentioned before, Emeline sends up adorable coffee caddies in the morning with free drip coffee to guests! Isn’t it the cutest? (It’s also SUCH amazing coffee!)

Final Thoughts

If you’re planning a trip to Charleston, you HAVE to stay at Emeline. The Holy City’s newest hotel property is gorgeous, approachably luxurious, and a true home away from home. I personally can’t WAIT to visit again! It’s a great place to stay whether you’re with your family, friends, or a romantic partner… somehow, the hotel manages to cover all the bases and be ideal for any travel party.
