While I’m sort of in denial that it is actually mid-September, in the spirit of Fall and Back-to-School I thought I’d review my go-to day bag, the Tory Burch York Buckle Tote. I’ve been carrying it around for awhile and find myself reaching for it every time I need to cart my laptop or DSLR around. To that end, I think it makes a GREAT work or school bag. Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.
Construction/Material
The York Buckle Tote is made of Saffiano leather. In case you’re curious about what that means– Saffiano leather is a treated, textured leather that’s made by a machine using a stamping method. Saffiano leather is scratch resistant, making it super durable and easy to clean. (And, like… I need this. I am so hard on my bags!)
The inside is nylon. There is a separate (padded!) zipper compartment large enough to hold a 15-inch laptop, 4 open pockets that can hold your medium and small electronics like cell phone, iPad, etc., and a zipper compartment.
The Tory Burch York Buckle Tote is currently available in 6 colors: black, light oak, luggage, tory navy, french grey and kir royale. (Kir royale is a deep red!) I own the bag in the luggage color, which is GORGEOUS. My second favorite is the light oak… it’s so neutral and such a beautiful shade. I know some people balk at a light bag, but since it’s made of the Saffiano leather, you don’t have to worry about it getting dirty and scuffed… it’s super easy to clean. Every season they tweak the colors a bit, so check every few months to see when new colors are introduced.
Capacity/Fit
The inside is basically big enough to hold all of your daily essentials, including a laptop and a pair of shoes, which is a major key. The inside is super roomy and easily holds everything I need for the day. (There’s even a ring to attach the matching Smartphone Wristlet.)
General Thoughts on the Tory Burch York Buckle Tote
I love the clean lines and classic shape… it’s tasteful and elegant, works with basically anything in your closet. The only thing I’m not wild about is the fact that the center zipper compartment for the laptop… is not attached to the bottom of the bag. Because of that, I sometimes struggle to find something if I just threw it in the bag haphazardly, as it often will fall UNDER the pouch. I’ve had more than one near heart attack while rifling through the purse for something I’m looking for! It’s a minor concern, though.
Overall, I think it’s a great buy. It retails for $295 and you definitely get your money’s worth. I think it’s a really great bag, especially if you travel a lot or are constantly on-the-go and need a multi-functional tote. It can work as a replacement diaper bag, a laptop bag, a purse, a briefcase, a backpack… you name it. I love the clean lines and classic shape… it’s tasteful and elegant, works with basically anything in your closet.
York or Perry?
A few people have mentioned being torn between the Perry and York. I think it depends on what you’re carrying around and what you’re using it for. The Perry is softer, more pliable and generally an easier bag to carry around. As it’s not as structured as the York, it’s definitely more comfortable to carry. However, if you’re carrying around your laptop and a lot of other essentials, the York is your girl. The padded compartment is definitely key and the other pockets and pouches help keep you better organized. Ultimately, it’s a personal decision and entirely dependent on you and what you’re looking for in a bag.

Final Thoughts
The York has become my go-to day bag. I highly recommend it as the perfect day bag that’s not necessarily a full on investment piece, but is still high end while being affordable. It’s already been around for awhile and there’s no sign of it going away anytime soon!
What do you think? Do you have a York tote? A Perry? Which do you prefer and why? What do you look for in a day bag? Tell me in the comments!
