I’m obsessed with Pinterest DIYs. I must have thousands of DIYs pinned, but I never actually do any of them. I envy those women that are so crafty and creative and can turn, like, a soda can into a crystal vase. As I shared with all of you at the beginning of the year, I’ve resolved to do more DIYs in the new year. I came across a yellow vinyl clutch I’ve had sitting in the bowels of my closet for years now. It was ruined by nail polish remover ages ago, and I always held on to it because it had a great shape and I was hoping something could be done to salvage it. Am I glad I did! I recently discovered Mod Podge and am completely obsessed with it. Mod Podge can jazz up ANYTHING. So I decided to make myself a sparkly little clutch!
What You’ll Need:
- Mod Podge
- Good quality glitter
- A medium sized sponge brush
- Optional: Metallic spray paint in a complementary color
Steps:
You’re going to need a little patience… this project will take a little time to do it right! You’ll be working on one side at a time.
My bag expands and has kind of an accordian effect going on, so I actually sprayed the sides with Rustoleum gold metallic spray paint, just because I felt like with all the wear and tear, it would be more effective than glitter. Plus, you can’t really see the sides. If you opt to do this, spray the entire bag first and let it dry. (Check the instructions on your spray paint. Mine took a couple of hours.) When your bag is ready:
- Open up the clutch and lay it flat. Thoroughly coat one side with the Mod Podge.
- Sprinkle glitter over the bag in a thick layer
- Wait for it to dry; I let mine dry overnight
- Touch up any spots you feel you missed
- Cover the side you’re working on in a final, sealing layer of Mod Podge
- Wait for it to dry
- Flip over and repeat to the other side
So there you have it! What do you think of my new clutch?
Amazing!! What brand of glitter did you use?
I used the Hobby Lobby brand glitter! http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/16-ounce-gold-glitter-jar-430363/
If you choose to buy a different kind, just make sure it’s NOT the fine glitter, choose one that is a larger grain. 🙂 x
