7 Fall Transitional Pieces to Extend Your Fave Summer Outfit’s Shelf Life

Utility Jacket | Bootie | Plaid Flannel | Leopard Scarf | Tights | Moto Jacket | Earrings

With fall officially in full swing, I thought I’d pull together a list of just a few pieces that you should start to incorporate into your looks to easily transition your wardrobe from summer to fall. Integrating these pieces might just be the trick to extending your fave summer outfit’s shelf life. Check out the pieces below and tell me in the comments: do you already have these pieces? How do you use them to transition your fave summer outfit?

Cropped Moto Jacket

A cropped moto jacket is the perfect fall topper. Throw one on over your fave little summer sundress when the temperatures drop and it gets chilly. It’s the perfect piece to add edge to more femme pieces like laces, sequins or cozy knits.

Utility Jacket

A utility jacket is one of my favorite fall staples. Whether you toss one on over your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans for running weekend errands, or over a frilly little dress for brunch, it definitely earns its place in your autumn rotation!

Plaid Flannel

A plaid flannel is the quintessential fall staple. I love to wear it paired with leather skinnies or with a sequined skirt. (You know I love the contradiction!) A plaid flannel is the ultimate layering piece.

Black Opaque Tights

If there’s one thing that you NEED NEED NEED in your fall arsenal, a good pair of opaque black tights are IT. Skip the flimsier, sheerer tights and opt for a dark black. My personal fave are fleece lined, because they’re both totally opaque, warm, and as comfy as wearing sweatpants- a triple threat.

Booties

Swap your sandals for pair of comfortable, cool little ankle boots. Give a little edge to your fave summer sundress, pair with your fave cuffed boyfriend jeans, or slip on with your denim cutoffs to instantly make them all fall appropriate.

Leopard Scarf

To quote Jenna Lyons, “as far as I’m concerned, leopard is a neutral.” Isn’t it though?! Leopard works with everything and adds personality and pop to any look. A little leopard scarf adds some pizazz to your boring old coat, and really… just adds some fun to your look. Plus, it works with literally every coat you own.

Statement Earrings

Come fall, aka time for scarves and layers, I personally think it’s the statement earring’s time to shine. It’s really the perfect opportunity to rock a gorgeous pair of statement stunners.

I agree! I have some of those, but plan on buying more! I need a leather jacket, good flannel and some tan ankle boots. Love this post!

Thanks, Megan! I always get a lot of questions about wardrobe building and like I said in the post… investing in the staples is a great way to start. Since they last season to season, they’re really worth the money, so if you’re looking to invest, that’s the place! At the same time, there are so many affordable options for the staples, that you can pick and choose what you’ll splurge or save and it’s totally worth it! Glad you enjoyed the post! Can’t wait to hear about what you buy! 🙂 xx S

Great selection! Quick question, how many plaid flannel shirts is too many? Because soon I may need an intervention!

HAHAHA!! I don’t think there’s an answer. Plaids are so great and scooping them up in different colors just means you can mix and match with more things. 😉
