To me, the true hallmark of someone with impeccable personal style is the ability to translate their fashion point of view without breaking the bank. I’m a sucker for a bargain! It’s a huge misconception that you have to spend a lot of money to look good. For example, you can use this website to get some discounts on certain items, or you could even shop second-hand (called thrifting). Just don’t expect to find any brands when it comes to thrifting, those go hotter than hot cakes!
These days, the chicest women in the game understand mass market fashion and how to choose pieces from affordable brands that seamlessly fit into their designer wardrobes. Style stars like Olivia Palermo, Kate Bosworth and Jessica Alba are just a few of today’s style icons that “get” affordable fashion and do a great job of choosing pieces that look luxe without the hefty price tag.
Ross Dress for Less had a huge day of coast-to-coast grand openings on Saturday. They opened locations in 30 different cities, including a new outpost in Fort Lauderdale. I swung by the store to check out the affordable goodies, and couldn’t resist scooping up some great finds.
My shopping cart at Ross! Chock full of goodies…
Some people are definitely overwhelmed by off-price retailers, so here are my top 10 tips for shopping discount like a pro!
1. Go with plenty of time and wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
2. Take your time browsing the racks, you may miss something!
3. Make sure you check the clearance sections for hidden gems.
4. Keep in mind what you already have in your closet and what you’re missing. But be flexible and willing to take a chance on a trend!
5. If you see a great deal, BUY IT. Don’t leave it and come back, it probably won’t be there!
6. Don’t buy something you’ll never wear just because it’s a good price.
7. If you find an amazing piece at a great price that’s too big, consider altering it.
8. Find out when your local store gets shipments to get the first crack at great finds.
9. When browsing the handbags, make sure you’re thorough- sometimes a designer gem is hidden away!
10. Before you decide a discount retailer “never has anything”, make sure you visit a couple of times over the span of a year… you may have just come on a bad day.
All in all, shopping off-price is a great way to build up your wardrobe and score a great deal on designer items. I love off-price shopping so much, I’m giving away a $25 Ross Gift Card, so YOU can score a great deal too. All you have to do is follow A Sparkle Factor on Twitter and Like us on Facebook! (Enter below!) And let me know in the comments: what are your tips for shopping off-price?
I’m a Ross junkie, I’ve found some really great pieces there like Calvin Klein leggings, Roxy sundresses and Steve Madden purses and shoes! I even have a progression pattern through Ross stores – first the handbags, second the shoes, then the clothing. But I’ve never managed to find a piece like that grey embellished neck top that you have there.
What’s my tip for shopping off-price? I will pick up EVERYTHING I see that catches my eye and take them all into the dressing room but only one or two of my favorites that fit me perfectly go home with me. It’s like they have to make the cut, lol. But yes, that’s how I manage to stay within my budget.
That’s a great tip! I always say reserve judgements for the fitting room! Sometimes, a piece you never imagined, looks amazing or one you think will be great is AWFUL.
The gray top was a GREAT find! My sister couldn’t help but scoop one up as well. My all time favorite shoes were a find at Ross- the Nine West Blonsky! LOVE!
