Cleaning out your closet can be a huge headache. With spring officially in full swing, it’s the perfect time to clean out your closet and make room for all the amazing trends a new season brings with it. While I know some are ruthless sticklers to the “One in, one out” rule, I am not one of those people. If you are, more power to you! But for the rest of us, weeding through the keepers and the giveaways can get a bit tricky. So I thought I’d share some quick closet editing tips! Some good rules of thumb to keep in mind:
KEEP IT IF…
- You love it.
- It’s timeless.
- You can think of 3 outfits you can style it into.
- It was your wedding dress.
TOSS IT IF…
- You haven’t worn it in a year.
- It doesn’t fit.
- It’s out of style.
- The only reason you’re hanging on to it is because you have a sentimental attachment to it. (Unless it was your wedding dress.)
Maybe that will help make your decisions easier! If you still need help… well, you know I have a service for that. Tell me in the comments: How do you determine what stays and what goes in your closet?
What a great post! I am always struggling with editing my closet… Denim specifically. Ugh what a nightmare! Luckily my blog has helped me to get a little bit more organized for outfit posts 🙂 Hopefully I’m headed in the right direction!

Thanks, Bekka! I totally get you! (Even my own closet can be tough… I feel like I always see the potential in something to be cute and am always trying to figure out new ways to wear things… which can be a blessing and a curse, because I never want to get rid of anything!) I think that editing our closet is really personal, especially for us fashion girls who are so invested in our clothes. It can be hard to be as ruthless as you sometimes need to be! Denim is especially difficult because it’s harder to justify! (if you’ve seen one skinny jean, you’ve seen ’em all!) But you have a lot of cute clothes, seems like you’re on the right track. LOVE your blog! 😉
