2015 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Style Roundup

While I was busy catching up on #TGIT last night, (totally didn’t get a chance to watch Grey’s, Scandal, or How To Get Away With Murder last week…) the rest of the world was watching the Grammy awards. I kept an eye on things via Instagram, of course, but was kind of excited to get up this morning and peruse the red carpet on Getty while enjoying my coffee.

Usually, I love so many looks it’s hard to choose one BEST DRESSED FAVORITE. At last night’s Grammy’s, that was absolutely not the case; there was one gal who stood out and dazzled above the rest.

My #1 Best Dressed Was…

Taylor Swift in Elie Saab: Taylor looked AMAZING in this gorgeous mermaid Elie Saab gown. I loved so many things about it- the color, the cutouts, the split front, the magenta Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, the earrings. Taylor’s style evolution has been really fun to watch and she was easily and by far the best dressed of the night. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet her LOVELY stylist, Joseph Cassell, he is really a rockstar in the industry and major kudos to him for pulling this look together.

Best of the Rest…

Rihanna in Giambattista Valli: I know this one is a bit controversial. (You know I’m ALWAYS up for a controversial fashion moment!) This dress was certainly a risk and not everyone “got” it. I personally thought it was fabulous! Rihanna can wear anything. This couture gown was definitely a princess “wow” moment. I loved the fitted top, the color, the layered tulle. I loved the styling; the earring was a perfect touch and her beauty look was a great complement.

Miley Cyrus in Alexandre Vauthier: I feel like after SO red carpet missteps, I had to give Miley props for showing up to a red carpet function looking beautiful and elegant. The dress was edgy, yet tasteful, and she looked great.

Katy Perry in Zuhair Murad: Katy debuted new lavender locks on the red carpet, and I thought it looked absolutely stunning! Paired with that gorgeous Murad couture dress, she was truly one of the best dressed of the evening. Katy sometimes comes off as gimmicky, and I’m not typically a fan of the looks that Johnny Wujek puts together for her, but this was a really great fashion moment for her. The beading was stunning, the earrings were a perfect complement, and her makeup was flawless.

Gwen Stefani in Versace: Gwen really took a chance with this gorgeous Versace jumpsuit look and it paid off big time! The jumpsuit was still elegant and beautiful and appropriate for the event. She’s just a COOL GIRL and the look she put together for the Grammy’s just feels natural for her. The styling was on point, her beauty look seamlessly elevated the look. Overall, a homerun.

Iggy Azalea in Armani Prive: Iggy did good. I was impressed with how polished and elegant she looked on the red carpet! The color of the dress was beautiful, the cut was great, and she was tasteful and appropriate.

Disappointments…

Madonna: I mean. Does this need thoughts? Do I really need to say why this DOESN’T work? I don’t even think I can collect my thoughts enough to adequately express all the reasons why this is a horrible fashion fail.

Jenny Lewis: No. Just. No.

Ariana Grande: I wasn’t a fan of this look. I didn’t like the draping on the top, I felt it looked weird. I also hated that she wore a white pump; the look would have been better completed with a sandal. And finally, I thought we had left the ponytail behind! In truth, a sleek dress like this one looks great with a sleek hair do, but I would have much preferred something different; a sleek braid maybe, or updo. Even down and straight would have been much better.

Charli XCX: This look was pretty much just crazy. I can appreciate the appeal of a sleek tuxedo on a woman; it’s a great look. This particular tuxedo look, however? Not so much. The shiny white material really does NO ONE any favors. It looks cheap and trashy and the styling is insane. The fur wrap is just confusing, the fit is totally off and I just basically hated this entire thing. (LOVE her though!)

Lady Gaga: I want to like this dress. I do. The thing is, it’s too much. For her body type, this sort of dress comes off as crass and unflattering. To pull of a deep v like this one, you really need to have more of a boyish figure and a flatter chest, or it feels porn-y like it would be more at home in a Free Sex TubeV video. Paired with the necklace, the heavy make up and the hair, it all comes across as just TOO much.

Pharell’s Lady Friend: Honestly, I have no idea who this woman is. Nor do I care. Normally, I wouldn’t even include her in this roundup, because frankly, who cares? But the truth is… this look just NEEDS to be included, because WHAT ARE YOU DOING WEAR A ONESIE TO THE GRAMMY’S?

So there you have it! My best and worst dressed from last night’s Grammy Awards! Tell me in the comments: who were your best and worst dressed? What did you think of Rihanna’s daring look? Did you love or hate it?

iggy azalea dress is great but to me the braid ruined it all!
    Maddona ugh!
I know rihanna is edgy and controversial and to be honest she made the dress work, but since I saw her I was waiting for her to dance the quinceanera waltz.
finally i think this was the first time lady gaga wore something normal, and she looks great (a ittle bit porn, youre right) but i like better her performance dress.

I agree, I wasn’t crazy about Iggy’s hair… but you know what, I felt she deserved some props because it’s the first time I’ve seen her on the red carpet and liked her dress. I totally agree on your Rihanna quince waltz comment LOL! I can see your point, definitely. I just like that she took a risk! 🙂 I felt iffy about Gaga, on one hand I really LIKED the dress… but I didn’t feel it SUITED her. I don’t know! I took her off my worst dressed list and then added her back in because I didn’t feel that she looked elegant. BTW I should have added an honorable mention for Nicki Minaj, because I did think she looked great!
